The restaurant "The Deck” born in 1982, its founders are Comm. Umberto Giasi, his wife Iolanda Celani and the young Eustace Persia.

Umberto was descended from an ancient family of restaurateurs, i Giasi. His parents Jacinta Loperfido and Saverio Giasi back in 1920 They opened the restaurant "Moro", the first activity options in Matera.

After years of service alongside parents and siblings, Umberto decided to pursue his career options alongside his wife Iolanda, also coming from a family of hoteliers. In 1974 inaugurarono “The Bocconcino", the first restaurant was born in the beautiful scenery of the Sassi and "father” of the restaurant.

Among the many contributors of the restaurant is distinguished by force of will and the capacity of young Eustace Persia, that a little later he joined Umberto and Iolanda in the new restaurant management “The Balcony".

The current restaurant, "The Deck", was the result of a ambitious project then, in 1982, accommodate both the locals and tourists, years before the Sassi of Matera were recognized as Heritage UNESCO in 1993.
